The Trail of Tears

John Ross, the chief of the great Cherokee Nation, is looking at his home for the last time. All around him, people are loading wagons for the long journey west. The Cherokee people do not want to leave their land, but they have no choice. Today is their first day on the Trail of Tears.


It is October 1, 1838. There is the Cherokees in America. The Cheokees is onn of the indigenous peoples of American. With about 17.000 people, they used to make their own land including Georgia, Albama, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina and developed their own writing. However, the situation has changed since the Indian ’’Immigration Law’’ was enacted.
