The story of the book, Cyril, Anthia, Robert, Jane, and five children have moved from London to a rural white house. The five children find a strange things covered with brown fur while digging and playing in a nearby gravel pit. It clams to be a sand fairy, Psammead, who has lived there for thousands of years , and will fulfill the wishes of the children one at time. However, the magic was for one day, disappearing when the sun went down. Although children's wishes can be faithfully met, things are not carried out as intended. For example, if they want to be rich , there will be plenty of gold coins that cannot be used at ordinary shops. The last wish was especially goo!  It is diary adventure set in everyday life.
